The Occasional Cigarette
The human body is an incredibly resilient machine. Only when you take something immoderately will it significantly harm you. You can smoke an occasional cigarette and it won’t hurt you. You can get horribly drunk on occasion and your body will recover. You can even take illegal narcotics and your body will heal itself.
The harm occurs when you continually assault your body day after day, hour after hour, and it has no time to recover from the assault.
The danger of the occasional cigarette is the possibility of reverting back to a smoker. However, once you learn to vape effectively with quality hardware and e-liquid, the danger of falling off the wagon is nil because vaping is more pleasurable than smoking.
Your experience of a cigarette will be comparable to that of a non-smoker, i.e. it will stink, it won’t taste good, and you won’t even want to finish it.
Some people try the e-cig and immediately have no desire at all for cigarettes. Some are determined to stop smoking cigarettes so they deal easily with the occasional cravings. However, I would say these types are in the minority. Vaping does take some getting used to, and you will probably have a few cravings when you first start.
However, you won’t gain weight, you won’t be irritable, and you won’t freak out. This is because you’re still getting your nicotine. You’re just not getting all of the other chemicals you have come to expect when you inhale your nicotine, but those are easier to get away from than nicotine.
So don’t feel bad if you still have the occasional cigarette. Even if for some reason you only cut down on your cigarette intake by half when you first start vaping, that’s still a huge benefit to your health and your wallet. And after you’ve been vaping a while, if you’re still smoking cigarettes regularly, you’ll start to wonder why you’re even smoking at all. When you stop at that point, it’s a piece of cake.
If you need extra motivation to make the switch from cigarettes to the e-cig, read this recent article published in the New York Times:
Smoking is even worse for you than previously thought. You’ll notice there’s no mention of nicotine in the news article or the report, because nicotine is not the dangerous part of a cigarette.
