I’m always seeing stories in vaping-related news of restaurants, bars, towns, colleges, and other establishments outright banning e-cigs. It’s annoying because secondhand vapor is even more harmless than firsthand vapor, unlike real cigarettes.
The first reason all of these bans are popping up is that e-cigs are still relatively new and unknown. We fear the unknown, so we’ll just ban it and move on with our lives.
The second reason all of these bans are popping up is our fault.
Vapers, especially those new to vaping, think it’s okay to go out in public and blow huge clouds of vapor in restaurants, bars, and other indoor establishments.
It’s NOT ok. If you’re one of these people, you’re doing a lot of harm to the e-cig community.
I get it. You’re really excited about having replaced cigarettes with the e-cig and the fact that you can vape indoors is new and amazing. I agree. However, for the sake of everyone who enjoys the newfound freedom and health of being a vaper, please do NOT vape flagrantly indoors. You’re just drawing unwanted attention to it.
Instead, if you must, learn how to stealth vape.
Non-smokers have been conditioned their whole lives to avoid exhaled clouds of smoke, and for good reason: secondhand smoke is very harmful and it smells terrible. Although secondhand vapor is harmless and it actually smells good, it looks the same.
